The political convention of Ezker Batua

After the electoral thump of last March 1, as soon as the initial moment of stir was overcome, we proposed to open a period of reflection and debate in the base assemblies, in order to analyze the past, the present and the future of Ezker Batua, debate that culminates now with the Political Convention, which will take place in Bilbao this Saturday.
In advance, also we have confronted debates of this type in the assemblies, but this time there has been a substantial change: for the first time there was no document approved by the direction to amend, but an open script, so that every assembly could think in a way free and opened on the human thing and the divine thing, without any limitation.
The process, with some exception, has been fine very much, there has been received multitude of contributions and very interesting all of them.
On Saturday in the Convention, it will be up to the Political Council of Basque Country, to determine which of the different proposed lines of intervention it endorses and takes up office like officials of the organization.
After a lot of work of synthesis and several hours of negotiation, finally we have come to a more or less agreed document, in which also there are identified those questions in which important differences are marked.
That's why, I am going to stop in the differences, since the consensus elements come to be the electoral program, therefore they do not suppose any innovation and are already for all acquaintances.
Summing up, I would say that we have deep differences concerning:
1.-Valoración of the participation of Ezker Batua in the government of Ibarretxe.
2.-Política of alliances.
3.-Modelo organizational.
1. - Some of them understand that the participation in the government, it has not had to do in the electoral disaster and that the motives of this one are foreign to this participation.
Others, we have a very different opinion. The participation in a government how it was that of Ibarretxe, supposed, especially in the second term, first of all, an identification with the most nationalistic vision of the right to be decided, but especially it affected in the form in which the citizenship perceived Ezker Batua.
Of an organization is clearly perceived like transformadora, we happen to be perceived as an organization very loving of government and capably of swallowing cars and wagons to support the power.
We are wrong, and I, the first one, that I defended the entry in both governments.
But seen the seen, I believe, that what corresponds to us is to recognize our error and not to persist on defending it.
In my opinion, the tripartite one was our worst pitfall and the electorate already did it to us to pay, so we are in the obligation to assume a new social contract with our electorate and to guarantee him, before having the possibility or not, before without committing the same errors again.
Therefore, the exigible would be to not take part again in governments, be already municipal, statutory or autonomic, unless we were the most adopted parties, and if some rare arithmetic has to support some candidate, to do it with a well definite programmatic agreement, which does not imply assuming direct government responsibilities.
2. - Alliances Politics. In this point, there is the one who speaks about the lefts pole with other political parties, and those whom we believe that, presently, in Basque Country, the conditions do not happen to compromise with Aralar or the left Basque nationalist, for being clearly pro-independence forces, with what we know that that determines the political debate in Basque Country.
The politics of alliances of Ezker Batua, it should go faced to the base of the associative movement, forget us of agreements cupulares with other political parties, and deepen in the understanding, always from the respect to the autonomy of everyone, in the trade union organizations, antiglobalization, pacifists, ecologists, feminists, alternatives, local movements, etc.
And certainly if we take part in the municipal elections from some platform of this nature, to support the dynamics of joint work during the whole term, without divisions neither in sub-groups, nor nothing that looks alike to a "share-out of the booty".
3. - Organizational Model. Ezker Batua is a weak organization, there we are all in agreement, but there is the one who defends that, how is life, in spite of doing some finishing touch and in spite of asking for the effort of all, we can go out forward.
Others, on the other hand, we believe that we have to initiate a process of refoundation similar to the one that federal IU tries to realize, changing models of internal functioning; adding big doses of participation and transparence; without withdrawing in itself, but opening the organization for new sectors and eliminating the struggles cainitas.
In short, being again what Izquierda Unida wanted to be in due time, that is to say, Left, and, also, Joined.
As I say, you already know that the discussion will be this Saturday; on all of us there depends the fact that we could go so far as to have a new and strengthened Ezker Batua or to keep on languishing and to go every time at least, as it has happening to us lately.
